Recent reports from across the United States highlight a mix of developments involving vehicle fleets, municipal properties, and traffic incidents. Data from the automotive sector shows changing trends in commercial vehicle sales and personal-use charges, while local news highlights an unusual police vehicle storage lot in downtown Los Angeles and serious traffic accidents in Maryland and Minnesota.

In the fleet industry, wholesale used-vehicle values declined in September, prompting Cox Automotive to adjust its forecast for the remainder of 2026. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index dropped to 205.9, reflecting a 1.1% decrease from August and a 0.6% decline from the previous year. Cox Automotive now projects the index to finish the year roughly 0.2% above year-earlier levels, down from its earlier forecast of 2% growth. Meanwhile, commercial fleet sales growth has moderated, with September sales remaining nearly unchanged compared to the previous year.

Fleet management companies are also adapting to new technologies and employee benefits. According to Automotive Fleet's 2026 Personal Use Survey, 79% of responding fleets now allow workers to use company vehicles for personal travel, up from 72% in 2024. Among respondents addressing personal-use fees, 54% charge a fee, compared to 48% previously. Additionally, Element Fleet Management is expanding its partnership with Waymo through its Element Mobility division to support the autonomous vehicle company's planned robotaxi service launch in Toronto, overseeing fleet operations, maintenance, charging, and infrastructure.

In municipal news, official documents have shed light on an unusual fenced property beneath the 101 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles. A January 2026 report from the Los Angeles City Administrative Officer confirmed that the Los Angeles Police Department has leased the property at 550 Ramirez Street from the California Department of Transportation since June 1999 to store up to 200 vehicles, including marked patrol cars and specialized equipment.

The site came under public attention following a video published by YouTuber effspot, which showed rows of dusty and damaged police cruisers, SUVs, and other vehicles at the location. While city reports indicate the lot serves the LAPD Motor Transport Division and provides overflow storage for the nearby Piper Technical Center, the documents also note ongoing security challenges, including repeated break-ins that have prompted the department to explore options for improved perimeter fencing.

Separately, emergency responders dealt with severe traffic accidents in multiple states. In Pike Creek Township, Minnesota, a 55-year-old Little Falls woman named Julie Moshier was hospitalized after her vehicle left the road, entered a wooded area, and caught fire on Friday, October 23. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reported that Mayo Clinic Ambulance transported her to St. Gabriel’s Hospital with unknown injuries following the incident near 130th Street and Highway 238.

In Waldorf, Maryland, a 3-year-old child was struck by a vehicle on Saturday evening near the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and St. Ignatius Drive. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, and a Maryland State Police helicopter airlifted the child to Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., with serious injuries. Authorities reported that the vehicle remained at the scene and traveled at approximately 30 mph, and the collision remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
