Real Betis secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Feyenoord at La Cartuja during the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League league phase. A penalty converted by Isco Alarcón in the 60th minute proved decisive, allowing the Andalusian side to maintain a flawless start to their European campaign with nine points out of nine possible.

The match was tightly contested, highlighted by a strong defensive performance from Betis and goalkeeper Álvaro Valles, who kept another clean sheet. Manager Manuel Pellegrini praised his team's initial intensity and possession control during the first half, noting that the opponent struggled to cross midfield during the opening forty-five minutes. However, after taking the lead, Betis retreated deeper defensively to withstand Feyenoord's late pressure.

The victory elevates Betis into the top eight of the Champions League standings, placing them among the exclusive group of five teams that have won all three of their opening fixtures. Despite the positive outcome, the game featured a moment of tension when Brazilian winger Antony was substituted in the 64th minute for Rodrigo Riquelme. Visibly frustrated, Antony discarded his jacket and briefly headed to the locker room before returning to the bench.

Addressing the substitution in his post-match press conference, Pellegrini minimized the incident by explaining that the change was purely tactical to regain control of the ball. "Antony went to the locker room and returned in a minute. There is no problem in that aspect," the coach stated, emphasizing his satisfaction with the team's overall defensive discipline and performance.

Feyenoord entered the match with high offensive expectations and a strong domestic record in the Eredivisie, but struggled to break through the disciplined Betis defensive block. The Dutch side created several dangerous moments through winger Hadj Moussa, yet failed to convert their opportunities, leaving them lower in the tournament standings and in urgent need of points to secure their qualification path.

Looking ahead, Real Betis will carry this European momentum into domestic competition as they prepare for upcoming fixtures in La Liga and future continental challenges. With the top-24 cutoff nearly secured, Pellegrini's squad has demonstrated a remarkable level of competitiveness and resilience on both national and international stages.
