Rare 1975 Monteverdi 375/4 Limousine Headed to Zürich Auction
A rare Swiss grand tourer with a Chrysler V8 engine is expected to fetch up to $279,000 at an upcoming Broad Arrow auction.
A rare 1975 Monteverdi High Speed 375/4 limousine is heading to Broad Arrow's upcoming Zürich sale at The Dolder Grand on November 7. Chassis 3115, a five-seat Fissore-bodied luxury car, carries a pre-sale estimate of CHF 185,000 to 230,000, which translates to roughly $224,000 to $279,000 based on exchange rates from October.
Peter Monteverdi founded his eponymous marque in 1967 after serving as Ferrari's Swiss distributor. The 375/4 limousine pairs a Swiss-built chassis and Italian coachwork with a powerful American 7.2-liter Chrysler Magnum V8 engine, delivering 375 SAE horsepower. Built to cross continents at high speeds, the model is estimated by the factory to reach speeds of around 155 mph.
Unlike the two-door 375 L coupes that often command the family's headline results, the four-door sedan has historically remained a connoisseur's choice. Production numbers for the 375/4 are subject to debate among automotive historians and registries. While Broad Arrow's catalogue notes that chassis 3115 is believed to be one of fewer than 30 built, other sources offer differing estimates, ranging from 28 to 35 cars, down to lower realistic figures between 15 and 20 due to poor period record-keeping.
According to auction documents, the vehicle was first registered in Switzerland in February 1975 and passed through two previous Swiss owners before the current collector acquired it in 2016. The car underwent a restoration between 2016 and 2020, resulting in a silver-grey metallic exterior over black leather, and has since appeared at various concours events including in Zürich and Baden-Baden. It currently shows approximately 69,000 kilometers, though experts note that this mileage is believed to be original rather than definitively documented.
The vehicle's market value remains bracketed by mixed historical sales data. A sister chassis, 3116, sold for CHF 112,125 in project condition in 2022, while another example on Bring a Trailer drew an unsuccessful $400,500 bid, reflecting higher seller expectations. Meanwhile, Hagerty's UK editors cite a Condition 4 value of $73,000 for a tired example, and a 2019 Essen auction saw another model sell for €174,800.
Potential buyers are advised to examine the vehicle's restoration file closely, as the documentation behind the mechanical work and the proof of mileage will likely determine where the final bid lands within the estimate. The November 7 auction will offer further insight into what modern collectors are willing to pay for a rare four-door Swiss grand tourer when exact production counts remain unconfirmed.
