Pokémon GO Updates Explorer Gadget for Active Gameplay

The built-in feature now functions while the application is open, allowing trainers to monitor automated actions and take manual control in real time.

Niantic has rolled out a significant update to the built-in Explorer Gadget in Pokémon GO, allowing players level 20 and above to utilize the automated tool while actively having the application open. Previously restricted to background use while exploring the real world, the feature now visually displays its activity directly on the in-game map.

When activated, a pink Poké Ball icon appears over targets that the Explorer Gadget is currently attempting to interact with, such as wild Pokémon or PokéStops. Trainers maintain flexibility during active sessions, as tapping on the highlighted target allows them to easily override the automated action and take manual control of catching or spinning within a limited timeframe.

To help players track their progress, the update introduces a summary feature accessible by selecting the Explorer Gadget icon on the map or through the key items section in the item bag. This overview displays how many Pokémon have been captured and how many PokéStop photo discs have been spun by the gadget.

Developers clarified specific operational rules for the tool. The Explorer Gadget relies exclusively on standard Poké Balls and will not automatically engage with powerful Pokémon or creatures that have not yet been registered in the Pokédex. Furthermore, players who utilize external hardware such as the Pokémon GO Plus + do not need to unpair their devices, though both systems cannot be active simultaneously.

Alongside the Explorer Gadget enhancements, the update brings several quality-of-life improvements to Pokémon GO. The catch summary screen has been redesigned to better highlight rewards and bonuses, while a dedicated appraisal button has been added directly to the individual Pokémon details screen for quicker access to statistics.

Additional adjustments address visual elements and spawn conditions across the map. Wild encounters surrounding Power Spots have been modified to ensure consistency, and visual highlights for lured Pokémon, route encounters, and previously visited PokéStops have all received saturation and boundary updates to improve overall readability.

Trainers are reminded by the development team to remain aware of their surroundings and adhere to local laws and safety guidelines while playing. As seasonal events continue to roll out globally, players can look forward to further updates integrated alongside upcoming competitive showcases and community celebrations.
