Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was ejected during the third quarter of Friday night's 127-120 loss to the Denver Nuggets after kicking Jamal Murray in the groin.

The incident occurred while Brooks attempted a turnaround jumper with Murray defending him. As Brooks fell backward, he extended his right leg forward, making direct contact with Murray. Officials initially whistled an offensive foul, but after reviewing the play, they upgraded it to a Flagrant 2, which mandates an automatic ejection.

At the time of his departure, Brooks was leading the Suns offensively, contributing 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting in just 20 minutes on the court. His performance included four three-pointers, one rebound, two assists, and a steal.

Murray remained on the court in visible pain for a short period before recovering and staying in the game, ultimately finishing with 39 points. Speaking to reporters after the final buzzer, Murray stated that he did not believe the contact was intentional, noting that they are friends and teammates on the Canadian national team.

"No, of course not," Murray said regarding whether the kick was deliberate. "He's shooting the ball. I mean, he might have flopped a little bit, but I don't think he's really trying to kick me in the (groin)."

The ejection marked the tenth time in Brooks' career that he has taken an early exit to the locker room. Known across the league for his physical and antagonistic style of play, Brooks frequently polarizes observers and opponents alike.

Following the game, teammate Miles Bridges suggested that Brooks' reputation as a league villain may have influenced the severity of the officials' ruling. Bridges expressed his belief that another player engaging in the same action might not have faced an ejection.

Despite the dismissal and the team's defeat, Brooks will have an opportunity to return to action when the Phoenix Suns face the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
