Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 on Monday during the UEFA Champions League league phase third matchday at Parc des Princes. The high-profile encounter featured six goals and extended PSG's opening winning streak in the tournament to three matches, while halting Barcelona's 11-game winning streak across all competitions.

The match began with high intensity, though both sides suffered early setbacks due to injuries. PSG lost Ousmane Dembele in the 20th minute, and Barcelona responded by losing Dani Olmo in the 27th minute. PSG capitalized first in the 38th minute when Desire Doue received a pass, maneuvered past defenders near the top of the penalty area, and fired a right-footed shot into the left corner to open the scoring.

Barcelona responded early in the second half. In the 55th minute, 19-year-old right back Xavi Espart, a product of the La Masia academy, linked up with Fermin Lopez on a give-and-go before driving into the box and slotting home his first career Champions League goal to equalize at 1-1.

The match saw further injury disruptions for PSG as Marquinhos and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia departed in the 59th minute. Despite the changes, the hosts reclaimed the lead in the 72nd minute. Doue delivered a corner kick that defender Lucas Hernandez headed past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Barcelona refused to back down, and Lamine Yamal provided a moment of individual brilliance in the 79th minute. Beating his marker down the right side, Yamal worked his way into a tight angle inside the area and squeezed a left-footed shot past the defense to level the score once again at 2-2.

The deadlock lasted only two minutes before PSG launched a decisive late surge. In the 81st minute, Vitinha collected a loose ball outside the penalty area and struck a right-footed shot into the right corner to put the hosts ahead 3-2. Four minutes later, Achraf Hakimi drove down the right flank and delivered a low cross to the far post, where Fabian Ruiz tapped it in to secure a 4-2 advantage.

With the win, Paris Saint-Germain claimed the top spot with nine points from three games, continuing their pursuit of consecutive European titles. Meanwhile, Barcelona dropped to six points and suffered their first official loss of the 2026-27 campaign under manager Hansi Flick, turning their focus toward upcoming domestic fixtures.
