Oppo Rolls Out ColorOS 17 Update for Recent Smartphone Models
The Android 17-based software upgrade is currently reaching users through a release candidate program across select regions.
Oppo has officially launched the rollout of its ColorOS 17 update for several previous-generation mobile devices. Following the initial rollout for the Find X9 series and Find N6 phones, the company is extending the Android 17-based operating system to earlier models, including the Find X8 Pro, Find N5, and the Reno 16 smartphone lineup.
For the time being, the update is being distributed through a release candidate program rather than a standard broad public release. Early adopters can request the update directly on eligible devices located in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. According to the company, if no major issues arise during this evaluation phase, the same build will eventually be pushed to the general public.
Users who wish to participate in the release candidate program must ensure that their devices are running specific build numbers. For the Oppo Reno 16 5G, supported build numbers include various iterations of versions 16.0.9 and 16.0.10. Similar specific build requirements apply to the Reno 16 F 5G, Reno 16 Pro 5G, Find N5, and Find X8 Pro models.
Because ColorOS 17 serves as a major system upgrade, the installation file ranges between 3GB and 5GB in size. Tech experts recommend that users clear out at least 6GB to 7GB of free storage space before attempting the installation. Additionally, device owners are advised to back up all important data and ensure their battery level is charged to at least 50 percent.
The new ColorOS 17 software brings several notable improvements and visual updates to supported devices. Key additions include an all-in-one Trinity Engine, a fresh light form glass design inspired by modern aesthetic trends, enhanced customization features, and an overall smoother operational experience throughout the system interface.
To request the update manually, users can navigate through their device settings by selecting System and Update, tapping the top of the page, selecting the settings icon, and accessing the Beta Program through the Release Candidate option. After hitting apply, users can return to check for updates and begin the downloading process.
The broader Android 17 ecosystem is also experiencing shifts across various manufacturing brands. Other companies, such as OnePlus and Realme, are actively incorporating ColorOS 17 into their own software roadmaps, moving away from proprietary software interfaces in a wider industry restructuring of mobile operating systems.
