New York Knicks Unveil Elaborate Championship Rings Featuring Miniature Arena
The luxury jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills designed the custom rings with nearly 800 stones and a mechanical replica of Madison Square Garden.
The New York Knicks celebrated their first NBA championship in 53 years on Tuesday night by receiving their championship rings and raising a banner before their home opener against the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden. The historic celebration marked the conclusion of a championship drought that ended when the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in June.
Crafted by luxury jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills, the players' championship rings feature an intricate design incorporating nearly 800 diamonds and blue sapphires totaling 22 carats set in white gold. Designer Jason Arasheben explained that the goal was to capture the energy, grit, and DNA of New York City and the venue where the title was secured.
The most striking feature of the jewelry is an innovative mechanical design that allows the top of the ring to rise and open up. This reveals a miniature model of Madison Square Garden, complete with the arena's exterior, ceiling architecture, and a tiny lower bowl featuring a microscopic gold Larry O'Brien Trophy.
The rings are packed with specific details commemorating the team's postseason run. They include 16 emerald-cut diamonds representing the squad's 16 playoff victories, a 0.16-carat diamond honoring a 16-point comeback against San Antonio in Game 5 of the Finals, and 69 diamond points in the "World Champions" lettering to signify combined regular-season and playoff wins.
Additional engravings inside the band include "Knicks in Five" and "10 weeks," a reference to owner James Dolan's call for discipline and focus. Each ring is further personalized with the player's last name, a diamond-encrusted jersey number, and the numbers of the entire championship roster surrounding the top.
During the pre-game ceremony, Knicks captain and NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson addressed the packed arena and lightheartedly thanked fans for staying through dramatic moments, such as Game 4 against the Spurs. Knicks legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier, who played on the franchise's championship teams in 1970 and 1973, also assisted in presenting the rings.
For die-hard fans looking to own a piece of the historic milestone, Jason of Beverly Hills manufactured a limited collection of 200 commemorative rings available for purchase. While the exact production cost for the players' heavy, custom-engineered rings has not been publicly disclosed, the retail replicas are priced at nearly $20,000.
