A New Jersey woman faces animal cruelty charges after police say she abandoned four cats inside a mesh tunnel during a rainstorm last week. According to the Asbury Park Police Department, the incident occurred on October 11 on the 1300 block of Summerfield Avenue.

Following their rescue, the feline group was placed in the care of the Monmouth County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The organization has sheltered and monitored the animals over the past ten days to ensure they recovered from the distressing ordeal.

Staff members at the shelter expressed relief over the cats' resilience and gentle demeanor despite the circumstances of their abandonment. In an official statement, the Monmouth County SPCA noted that all of the animals were extremely grateful to find a safe environment filled with proper medical attention and affection.

Shelter officials emphasized the remarkably friendly nature of the rescued pets. According to the organization, the cats proved to be exceptionally affectionate almost immediately after arriving at the facility.

Veterinary staff scheduled the animals to undergo spaying and neutering procedures. Following these medical treatments, three of the four cats became cleared to find permanent homes starting Thursday.

The available animals include a 2-year-old grey and tabby female named Delilah, a 2-year-old black male named Matisse, and a 2-year-old white and tabby female named Autumn. Meanwhile, the youngest of the group, an 8-month-old cat named Morticia, has already successfully found a new home through the adoption program.
