Minnesota Voters Await Results in 2026 Midterm Elections

Statewide contests for governor and Congress remain undecided as ballot counting continues across Minnesota.

Voters in Minnesota are currently awaiting the final tallies for a wide range of state and federal offices following the 2026 midterm elections. As of Tuesday evening, results for the gubernatorial race between candidates Klobuchar and Demuth, as well as the U.S. Senate contest featuring Flanagan and Tafoya, remain pending. Election officials across the state are processing ballots to determine the outcome of these high-stakes races, which will help shape the political landscape for the remainder of President Donald Trump's second term.

The midterm cycle has drawn significant public attention, with voters expressing their views on the current administration's policies through the ballot box. In Minneapolis, the election atmosphere was marked by local demonstrations of civic engagement. Residents were observed leaving "I Voted" stickers at memorial sites for Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, two U.S. citizens who were fatally shot by federal immigration agents earlier this year. These incidents have sparked a national conversation regarding immigration enforcement, and for many voters, the act of casting a ballot served as a way to address these events.

One voter, who identified himself only as Mike F., explained his decision to visit the memorial site for Good. "I felt like it was just the right thing to do – to come pay some respects and attach my vote to what happened here," he stated. Another participant, a retired physician named Arne, expressed his grief while visiting the site for Pretti, describing the nurse as a well-regarded member of the community.

Beyond the statewide races, voters are also waiting for outcomes in various local and congressional contests. The ballot includes the race for the 8th Congressional District between Stauber and Swanson, as well as numerous state senate and house seats, such as those in districts 3, 7, 8, and 11. Additionally, local issues are on the table, including sheriff elections in Carlton County, St. Louis County commissioner races, and school referendums in Duluth and Ely.

Nationwide, the 2026 midterms are being closely watched as a referendum on the federal government's agenda. While Minnesota officials continue their work, other states have already seen polls close, with early results providing initial signals on the balance of power in Congress. The Department of Homeland Security has indicated that it intends to review voting logs following the election to ensure that no noncitizens participated in the process, a continuation of the administration's focus on election integrity.

Despite concerns regarding potential interference or systemic issues, election day has been largely uneventful across the country. While some isolated incidents of technical complications with voting machines were reported in other states, and weather-related challenges affected turnout in some areas, the process has proceeded without reports of widespread disruption. As the counting continues in Minnesota, residents and national observers alike await the final numbers that will decide the leadership for the coming years.
