Middlesbrough delivered a statement performance on Friday night, defeating Bolton Wanderers 5-1 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium to move to the top of the Championship table. Kim Hellberg's side capitalized on a stellar attacking display, overwhelming the hosts under the Sky Sports broadcast lights.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the first half as momentum swung back and forth in an energetic opening period. Middlesbrough seized control when Riley McGree fed a precise ball across the box for Will Lankshear to tap in his twelfth goal of the season in the 31st minute. Shortly after, Adilson Malanda added a third in the 38th minute, heading home following a corner via a deflection.

Bolton refused to go down quietly before the halftime break. With virtually the last kick of the first half, Aaron Bair pulled a goal back for the hosts after a goalmouth scramble following an outswinging corner taken by Sebastian Berhalter, narrowing the deficit to 3-1.

Despite Bolton showing signs of life early in the second half, Middlesbrough quickly extinguished any hopes of a comeback. Amario Cozier-Duberry extended the lead to 4-1 in the 73rd minute by receiving a pass from McGree, facing up his marker, and launching a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Lankshear capped off the comprehensive victory in the 78th minute by netting his second of the night. McGree once again created the opportunity by breaking behind the defense and unselfishly setting up the division's leading scorer to seal the 5-1 scoreline.

The defeat leaves Bolton facing ongoing struggles on home soil, where they have now suffered three losses in four matches at their stadium. Steven Schumacher's squad had entered the fixture following a solid week on the road that included a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers and a draw with Southampton, but they ultimately could not contain Middlesbrough's potent forward line.

Middlesbrough's triumph extends their impressive unbeaten run in the Championship to ten matches, reinforcing their status as early contenders for automatic promotion. Meanwhile, Bolton will need to quickly regroup to distance themselves from the relegation places as the league schedule intensifies.
