Luka Doncic Leads Lakers Past Raptors With 45-Point Masterclass

The Los Angeles guard continued his historic start to the NBA season with another stellar performance.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic delivered another historic performance on Sunday, scoring 45 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, dishing out six assists, and recording five steals to lead his team to a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors. The win improved the Lakers' record to 5-2 for the young season as they prepare to host the Miami Heat.

Doncic has been on a remarkable scoring tear, having surpassed 35 points in every game he has played since the team's opening contests. With 226 points through his first six games, he joined Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to score 225 or more points across their first six games of a season. He currently leads the league with a 37.7 points-per-game average.

During Sunday's matchup, Doncic matched his season high with eight 3-pointers and executed a bizarre, high-arcing shot off the backboard that caught the attention of fans and teammates alike. Teammate Sandro Mamukelashvili expressed his awe after the game, stating that he told fellow player Kevon Looney he feels Doncic is easily the best player in the league right now.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick noted that Doncic's dominant scoring displays have started to feel routine after witnessing a similar stretch last season. "It feels pretty normal. I mean we got to witness it for a month last year and it was like a supernova," Redick said. "It was loud. It feels loud right now."

Despite building a 26-point lead, the Lakers nearly let the game slip away in the final moments when the Raptors cut the margin to five points with under a minute remaining. The late surge prompted Redick to reinsert Doncic and Austin Reaves into the lineup to secure the victory. Redick admitted he would leave his starters in until the final buzzer moving forward.

Looking ahead, the Lakers face a quick turnaround with a matchup against the Miami Heat on Monday night. Doncic made it clear that his focus remains fixed on team success rather than personal milestones. "I just want to win every game," Doncic said, adding that his immediate recovery plan involved the cold tub, massage, and rest to ensure he is ready to take the floor.
