Lidl Expands Operations with New Appointments and Household Promotions
The discount supermarket chain names a new procurement head for the Baltic region while launching new retail offerings.
Discount supermarket chain Lidl has announced the appointment of Sven Sage as its new head of procurement for the Baltic region. Sage brings roughly 20 years of retail and procurement experience to the role, having previously spent over a decade working in category management and purchasing positions for the REWE Group in Germany, alongside international management experience in the Czech Republic. His career also includes time spent within the Lidl International central headquarters procurement team early on.
In his new position, Sage will oversee the strategic direction of procurement and further assortment development across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Commenting on his appointment, Sage noted that while the Baltic countries share many similarities, each nation possesses unique traditions, customer needs, and shopping habits. He emphasized the importance of tailoring product assortments to honor these local distinctions.
Janusz Wlodarczyk, head of Lidl in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, welcomed the appointment, stating that Sage's extensive international experience and long-standing retail expertise will help strengthen the company's market position and continue offering customers strong value. Lidl currently operates 88 stores in Lithuania, 39 in Latvia, and 22 in Estonia, competing alongside major chains such as Maxima, Norfa, Iki, and Rimi.
The executive changes coincide with broader commercial activities for the retailer across various markets. In Poland, Lidl introduced a new range of small kitchen appliances under its Silvercrest subbrand, highlighted by the chain's first PFAS-free glass air fryer. Priced at 219 PLN, the 1500-watt appliance features two glass baskets with a 2-liter and 4-liter capacity, accompanied by various home kitchen gadgets including vacuum sealers, electric kettles, and blenders available through October.
Meanwhile, in Germany, Lidl's online bazaar catalog continues to feature unconventional and unexpected high-ticket items, such as the Prike PXA Adventure trail motorcycle. Sold for 2,999 euros, the 125cc manual motorcycle offers an estimated fuel range approaching 670 kilometers from a 15.5-liter fuel tank. Despite generating significant attention, the motorcycle lacks an anti-lock braking system and remains restricted to the German market, with distribution handled by an external importer.
These diverse retail developments highlight Lidl's ongoing efforts to diversify its catalog beyond traditional grocery offerings while bolstering its corporate leadership structure across international operations as the company expands its global footprint.
