Levante UD secured a much-needed 3-1 victory against Athletic Club in a rescheduled fixture, putting an end to a difficult five-match winless run and climbing to eleventh place in the standings with ten points.

The squad managed by Luís Castro entered the match looking to reverse its recent momentum against a formidable opponent. After weathering early threats from the Basque side, including a clearance by Manu Sánchez and a shot from Berenguer tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, the home side capitalized on quick counterattacks.

Roger Brugué opened the scoring and quickly followed up with a second goal, capitalizing on a rebound from a shot by Thiago Fernández. Displaying the characteristic persistence instilled by their manager, Brugué anticipated defender Laporte to net his fifth goal of the season, all of which have been scored at the Ciutat de València stadium.

Athletic Club attempted to turn the tide in the second half. Following a lengthy VAR review, Berenguer successfully converted a penalty kick to narrow the deficit to 2-1 and applied pressure on the home defense.

However, the visitors' comeback hopes suffered a severe blow in the 74th minute when Laporte was shown a red card for committing a professional foul as the last defender, leaving Athletic Club to play the remainder of the match a man down.

Despite suffering in the closing moments of the game, Levante sealed the three points when Etta Eyong pushed the ball into the net in stoppage time. The final 3-1 scoreline provides breathing room for Luís Castro's team away from the relegation zone and preserves their strong home form.

Further down the table, the result impacts the broader relegation battle, leaving Elche CF just one point away from safety. Meanwhile, several teams including Rayo Vallecano, Athletic Club, Getafe CF, and Villarreal CF sit closely together with nine points as the season progresses.
