Independiente Rivadavia defeats Banfield to close in on playoff berth

Independiente Rivadavia secured a vital 3-1 victory against Banfield at the Bautista Gargantini stadium during the 15th round of the Clausura Tournament. The win brought the team managed by Alfredo Berti to the brink of qualification for the next stage of the competition, holding a three-point advantage over their closest pursuer with only one match remaining in the regular phase.

The match began with a high-intensity pace and early scoring drama. Banfield opened the scoring before the ten-minute mark when Santiago Daniele capitalized on a corner kick, winning an aerial duel to head the ball past the home team's goalkeeper and put the visitors ahead.

The reaction from Independiente Rivadavia was swift and decisive. Midfielder José Florentín answered with a powerful header to tie the game shortly after. Just minutes later, at the 15-minute mark, Florentín struck again, converting another opportunity to complete a quick comeback and put his side up 2-1.

During the first half, Banfield sought to counterattack and nearly equalized when Lautaro Gómez put the ball in the net following a rebound, but the goal was ultimately disallowed after a video assistant referee review. Shortly before halftime, further defensive trouble struck Banfield when Daniele accidentally headed the ball into his own goal, extending Independiente Rivadavia's lead to 3-1.

The second half offered a much slower tempo with fewer scoring opportunities as both sides struggled to find open space. Independiente Rivadavia managed the game effectively, successfully neutralizing Banfield's attempts to mount a comeback and comfortably protecting their two-goal lead until the final whistle.

With this result, Independiente Rivadavia depends entirely on its own performance heading into the final fixture of the tournament. Meanwhile, the outcome also had broader ramifications in Argentine football, as the broader sequence of results finalized the qualification landscape for other major clubs in the league standings.
