The 32-year-old royal has announced his engagement to American artificial intelligence entrepreneur Emily Liu after a three-year relationship.
Hereditary Prince Heinrich Donatus zu Schaumburg-Lippe has announced his engagement to American artificial intelligence entrepreneur Emily Liu. The couple, both 32 years old, have been together for three years and decided to make their engagement public.
According to reports, the prince proposed to his partner in April during a hiking trip. While an official wedding date has not yet been set, the ceremony is scheduled to take place at Bückeburg Castle in Lower Saxony, where the couple also plans to reside following their marriage.
Prior to the engagement announcement, the couple maintained a long-distance relationship spanning thousands of kilometers between Bückeburg and San Francisco. Their shared professional focus on artificial intelligence originally brought them together.
Emily Liu is a co-founder and partner at the startup accelerator HF0 located in San Francisco. Meanwhile, her fiancé co-founded 'The Embassy' alongside Helena von Gagern, an initiative designed to assist European startup founders in Silicon Valley.
Alexander, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe, expressed his approval of the upcoming marriage. 'The two of them fit together wonderfully. We welcome Emily with open arms and are happy for both of them,' the 67-year-old stated.
Heinrich Donatus is the son of Alexander, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe, and Princess Lilly zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. He belongs to the House of Schaumburg-Lippe, whose ancestors governed the historical principality in modern-day Lower Saxony until 1918. In Germany, royal privileges were abolished in 1919, meaning the title of hereditary prince carries no political privileges.
In the long term, Heinrich Donatus is expected to take over the family estate centered around Bückeburg Castle.
