Hapoel Tel Aviv secured a hard-fought 90-81 victory over Virtus Bologna at the Arena 8888 in Sofia, erasing a 13-point second-half deficit to take round seven of the EuroLeague. Head coach Dimitris Itoudis watched his squad struggle through a difficult first half before mounting a powerful comeback that halted Virtus's four-game winning streak in the competition.

The Italian side started the contest with high energy and maintained tight control throughout the opening twenty minutes. Virtus dictated the pace, capitalized on physical play under the boards, and built a dominant 12-point advantage by halftime, leading 48-36. Tommaso Baldasso and Derrick Alston Jr. spearheaded the early offensive push, keeping the Israeli defense constantly off balance.

Virtus briefly extended its lead to 13 points early in the third quarter at 51-38. However, the momentum shifted dramatically as Hapoel raised its defensive intensity and increased pressure on the ball. Led by Vasilije Micic, Elijah Bryant, and Zach LeDay, the Israeli club engineered a swift 10-0 run to quickly erase the deficit.

Hapoel completely overturned the score during the third period, utilizing a 28-14 surge to pull ahead 64-62 by the end of the quarter. The offensive struggles mounted for Virtus as key players found themselves in foul trouble, halting the fluid ball movement that characterized their impressive first half.

Entering the final period with newfound confidence, Hapoel extended its margin to 79-66, fueled by strong interior scoring from Tai Odiase and crucial perimeter shots. Despite the mounting deficit, Alex Mumbrù's squad refused to fold and clawed back within six points at 79-73 following resilient defensive stops and a tap-in by Aliou Diarra.

Nevertheless, the Italian team failed to execute down the stretch, missing key opportunities to close the gap entirely. Micic and LeDay answered with decisive scoring, sealing the 90-81 outcome in favor of the hosts. LeDay finished the night with a stellar double-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists, earning MVP honors.

Micic contributed 16 points and 3 assists, while Odiase added 13 points and 6 rebounds for Hapoel, lifting their season record to 5-2. On the other side, Diarra and Alston Jr. paced Virtus with 12 points apiece, while Baldasso and Marcus Carr each chipped in 10 points.

Despite the disappointing result, Virtus exited the floor with their heads held high, proving they can compete against top-tier European opponents with a massive budget. Mumbrù's team will look to bounce back immediately as they prepare to face Olimpia Milano in the upcoming domestic derby.
