Club Deportivo Guadalajara secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Monterrey at Estadio BBVA during Week 14 of the Liga MX Apertura 2026 tournament. The match, played on Saturday, October 24, featured high tension, heavy rain in the second half, and significant refereeing controversy that kept supporters on edge until the final whistle.

The visiting squad struck early in the contest. Just nine minutes into the match, Roberto Alvarado capitalized on a defensive mistake by the home team to send a precise, crossed shot past goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, silencing the stadium crowd and giving Guadalajara a vital early lead.

Monterrey immediately pressed for an equalizer and earned a penalty kick in the 17th minute following a foul on Ricardo Chávez inside the box. Two minutes later, Argentine forward Lucas Ocampos stepped up to take the shot, but Guadalajara goalkeeper Raúl Rangel guessed correctly, diving to his right to block the effort and maintain his team's advantage.

Rangel continued his stellar performance just before halftime by making a spectacular save on the goal line to deny a strong header from Hugo Cuypers. As the match progressed into the second half under rainy conditions, Monterrey intensified its offensive pressure, forcing the visitors into defensive adjustments while searching desperately for a goal.

The closing moments of the game erupted into chaos. In the 90th minute, Orbelín Pineda received a direct red card after a challenge near the edge of the box on Kevin Castañeda, leaving Monterrey with ten players on the pitch.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Monterrey appeared to secure a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time when Diego Rossi bundled the ball into the net following a scramble in the penalty area. However, following a video assistant referee review, the referee determined that Rossi had handled the ball prior to scoring, resulting in the goal being disallowed.

The victory elevated Guadalajara to second place in the tournament standings with 23 points, positioning them just four points behind the league leaders. Meanwhile, Monterrey remained with 20 points in seventh place, and manager Matías Almeyda was reportedly expelled after the final whistle for protesting to the officiating crew.
