Grizzlies Defeat Trail Blazers 124-103 to Advance to 5-0
Cam Boozer records a historic triple-double and Cedric Coward shines as Memphis pulls away in the fourth quarter.
The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 124-103 at the Moda Center, capping off a successful four-game road trip and improving their record to 5-0 on the season. In what was considered Memphis' biggest test so far, the team relied on strong performances from Cam Boozer and Cedric Coward to pull away during the final period.
Cam Boozer delivered the standout performance of the night, recording 18 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds. With this milestone, Boozer became the youngest frontcourt player in NBA history to notch a triple-double. Displaying high shooting efficiency, he shot 6-for-10 from the field and connected on four of his five attempts from beyond the arc.
Cedric Coward continued to impress during his anticipated year-two leap, stepping up to help carry the offense when Portland attempted to build a lead. Coward finished the contest with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, shooting 7-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-5 on three-pointers. His defensive length and activity on the boards remained a notable factor for the Grizzlies.
The matchup also marked Ja Morant's first game against his former team since being traded to Portland four months ago. The 27-year-old point guard finished with 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists in 23 minutes of play before exiting the game in the fourth quarter.
Morant was forced to leave the court halfway through the final period after appearing to injure his left hamstring during a sequence of plays. He headed to the bench for evaluation and was officially ruled out by the team later in the quarter, with the severity of his injury remaining unclear.
Prior to the injury, Portland kept the game competitive through a tightly contested first half that ended in a tie. The Trail Blazers mounted multiple scoring runs, but Memphis repeatedly answered behind key baskets from Boozer, Quentin Post, and Jaylen Wells, successfully weathering early foul trouble from big men Zach Edey and Isaiah Stewart.
The supporting cast provided crucial minutes to sustain the Grizzlies' early-season win streak. Contributions from Cam Spencer, who tallied 8 points and 8 assists, along with GG Jackson's 12 points and Jaylen Wells' 10 points, helped Memphis secure the decisive victory on the road.
