A Collin County jury sentenced a former McKinney Independent School District athletic trainer to five years in prison on Thursday following her guilty plea to child sexual assault charges, according to court and district records. Lindsey Post, 36, was convicted on two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of improper relationship between an educator and student.

According to the Collin County District Attorney's office, Post met the victim in 2025 at McKinney North High School when the student broke her arm and required physical therapy. The victim reported the abuse to her parents on January 27, 2026, and law enforcement arrested Post the following day.

Following a third-party investigation into the situation, the McKinney ISD board of trustees voted to terminate Post's employment in February. Court records indicate that the victim's parents filed a civil lawsuit in February seeking $1 million in damages against both Post and the school district. That trial has been rescheduled to early February 2027.

As part of her sentencing conditions, Post is legally required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of her life and successfully complete a specialized sex offender treatment program. Furthermore, judicial records mandate that she must have no contact with the victim or the victim's family.

Assistant criminal district attorneys Justin Alexander and Claire Kirk prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. They were assisted during the legal proceedings by District Attorney Investigator Sarah Putman and Victim Assistance Coordinator Melissa White.

The case has brought renewed attention to the critical role and oversight of athletic trainers and school personnel across educational institutions in Texas. School district officials have cooperated fully with local authorities throughout the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
