The very first Airbus A380 ever built took to the skies once again for a test flight departing from Toulouse, France. Aircraft serial number 001, registered as F-WWOW, completed a journey lasting two hours and forty-three minutes over the Pyrenees and the Bay of Biscay before returning safely to its origin.

Airbus continues to utilize the more than twenty-year-old jet as an active testbed. Following a period of storage that began in the spring of 2022, the aircraft resumed flight testing in March 2025 after undergoing comprehensive system upgrades and modernized testing equipment.

According to the manufacturer, these ongoing flight trials are designed to support the certification of new technical developments for the wider A380 fleet that remains in active commercial service around the world today.

While the original prototype supports future fleet developments, commercial operators continue to feature the superjumbo in prominent roles across global aviation networks. Emirates, for instance, maintains regular daily operations utilizing its A380 fleet alongside newer aircraft additions.

First-class passengers traveling on Emirates' Airbus A380 fleet also benefit from exclusive onboard amenities, including access to an onboard shower and a dedicated lounge.

Skytrax recognized the carrier's luxury offerings in its latest passenger satisfaction survey, ranking Emirates among the top airlines for first-class travel globally alongside competitors such as Air France, Singapore Airlines, and Lufthansa.

As major airlines continue to update their aircraft and enhance premium service offerings to attract high-paying passengers, the enduring legacy of the Airbus A380 persists both through active commercial routes and ongoing developmental testing.
