Fiorentina and Atalanta played to a 2-2 draw in their Serie A encounter at the Artemio Franchi stadium, failing to secure a much-needed victory in a match marked by missed opportunities and momentum shifts. Despite staging a second-half comeback, Fiorentina remained unable to lift itself out of the relegation zone, sitting in 18th place with just five points after nine matches.

The match began with early misfortune for the visitors when defender Thomas Kristensen was forced to leave the pitch injured after only four minutes. Atalanta, dealing with an already extensive list of absentees following a recent muscle injury to Raoul Bellanova, started the game slowly and allowed Fiorentina to control the initial tempo.

Real Madrid loanee Franco Mastantuono tested Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with an early shot, while Eljif Elmas and Gianluca Gaetano also missed chances in a tightly contested first half. Fiorentina failed to capitalize on its periods of dominance, a lack of clinical finishing that ultimately cost the home side before the break.

Atalanta capitalized on its opponent's missed chances just four minutes before halftime. Charles De Ketelaere broke the deadlock by converting a cross from Nicola Zalewski, scoring his team's first away goal before the interval this season and ending a nine-month domestic goalscoring drought.

The beginning of the second half suffered a brief delay after fourth official Livio Marinelli had to step in to take over refereeing duties due to an injury to Federico La Penna. Once play resumed, Fiorentina immediately stepped up its offensive pressure, with Mastantuono narrowly missing the target from a direct free kick.

The home side's persistence paid off shortly after the restart when Alieu Njie leveled the score with a brilliant diving header from an assist provided by Álex Jiménez. Continuing their offensive push, Fiorentina completed a temporary turnaround past the hour mark when Juventus loanee João Mário drove inward and beat Carnesecchi with a powerful shot to net his first goal for the club.

Atalanta refused to fold and responded with sustained pressure from its attacking unit. Nicola Zalewski restored parity for the visitors with 16 minutes remaining in regulation, squeezing a precise finish past the near post to establish the final 2-2 scoreline.

The resulting draw extends Fiorentina's winless streak to five matches, consisting of two draws and three defeats, though the point allowed the team to climb one spot in the standings. Meanwhile, Atalanta halted a four-game away losing skid and sits in 12th place in the league table after four consecutive matches without a win.
