Fermin Lopez scored twice as Barcelona came from behind to claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, maintaining their position at the summit of La Liga heading into the international break. Hansi Flick's side moved to 33 points, establishing a three-point cushion over second-placed Real Madrid, while Atletico dropped to third place with 28 points.

The match began with high intensity as both sides created early scoring opportunities. Atletico forward Julian Alvarez was sent clear in the sixth minute but failed to capitalize, while Marc Pubill hit the crossbar for the hosts and Pedri struck the post for Barcelona during a chaotic opening sequence.

Atletico broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Giuliano Simeone emphatically converted a low cross from Alvarez. Shortly after the opening goal, players and supporters paused for a minute of silence to pay tribute to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who recently died following a serious injury sustained during a Spanish Second Division match.

Barcelona ramped up the pressure as the first half drew to a close. On the stroke of half-time, the visitors capitalized on a defensive clearance failure by Atletico, allowing Lopez to curl the ball home and equalize.

The Catalan club maintained their momentum after the break. In the 66th minute, Lamine Yamal delivered an intelligent pass into the path of Lopez, who calmly guided his shot beyond goalkeeper Jan Oblak to secure the lead for the visitors.

Atletico pressed heavily for an equalizer in the remaining minutes, but failed to seriously test Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The defeat marks Atletico's second loss of the La Liga season, leaving them five points adrift of the league leaders as domestic play pauses for international fixtures.
