Estevao Shines for Chelsea Despite Limited Playing Time and Transfer Rumors
The young Brazilian forward delivered an impactful performance in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, drawing praise from international media amid growing speculation about his future.
Brazilian forward Estevao delivered a standout performance during Chelsea's 2-0 victory against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. Making his first league start under manager Xabi Alonso, the 19-year-old wore the number 41 shirt and dominated the right side of the attack, earning widespread acclaim from European media outlets despite not having a goal officially validated.
During the match, the young player found the back of the net twice, but both instances were disallowed by the officiating crew due to offside calls. Nevertheless, his relentless offensive production earned him high marks across the continent. British tabloid The Standard described his display as very brilliant, emphasizing that he constantly tried to make things happen in the final third.
The Sun highlighted his direct matchup against Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot, noting that the Brazilian gave the defender a difficult time. The publication also praised his technical quality on his second disallowed goal, though it suggested the youngster still needs to improve his decision-making during transition moments. Meanwhile, the Spanish newspaper Diario AS labeled his display a masterclass and suggested that Chelsea could have secured a historic blowout if either of his goals had counted.
Despite his impact on the pitch, Estevao has experienced a significant reduction in playing time under Xabi Alonso this season. Having accumulated only 172 minutes on the field, he has featured less than 19 other members of the professional squad, including backup goalkeeper Mike Penders. The arrival of high-profile reinforcements and tactical choices by Alonso have limited his opportunities, with players like Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, and club-record signing Morgan Rogers securing regular spots in the starting lineup.
This lack of regular action has sparked rumors in the international transfer market regarding a potential departure during the January window. French outlet Foot01 reported that Paris Saint-Germain is considering a loan proposal for the Palmeiras academy product to cover for the injured Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Simultaneously, Catalan newspaper Sport indicated that Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation, as sporting director Deco has long admired the player.
A potential move to Spain could prove difficult, however. Estevao is under contract with Chelsea until 2033, and the London club reportedly holds no intention of letting him go easily. Barcelona is well aware of these hurdles and continues to observe developments before making any official approach.
On the international stage, Estevao's club situation has not hindered his national team prospects. Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti regards the forward as an essential piece for the future of the squad, maintaining him in the plans and calling him up for the upcoming friendlies against Japan and Singapore, regardless of his club minutes.
