The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) marked its 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi during a major commemorative event. Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the celebration, which brought together senior ministry officials, Central Board of Trustees members, employers, workers, and various key stakeholders.

During the event, Minister Mandaviya unveiled several critical administrative and technological initiatives aimed at streamlining services for millions of members. Among the main rollouts are the automatic settlement of eligible inoperative Employee Provident Fund accounts with balances up to Rs 1,000, alongside the integration of EPFO services directly through WhatsApp.

The celebration also highlighted ongoing efforts to make administrative processes more accessible for retirees and senior citizens. In regions like Agra, special month-long campaigns running through November focus on assisting pensioners with submitting their digital life certificates remotely using smartphones, sparing elderly individuals from visiting physical offices.

As part of the anniversary program, Mandaviya reviewed various exhibition stalls and released multiple institutional publications highlighting legal awareness, knowledge creation, and compassionate governance. Additionally, the Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026 were presented to honor the outstanding contributions of regional offices, zonal offices, individual officers, and staff members.

Officials emphasized that the milestone anniversary represents much more than institutional growth. The organization reiterated its enduring commitment to ensuring that a worker's lifelong labor translates into reliable security, dignity, and peace of mind for both workers and their families.

Data released around the anniversary highlighted significant expansion in India's social security landscape. Social security coverage has grown from 19 percent in 2015 to 68.4 percent, bringing over a billion people under its protective umbrella.

Furthermore, active contributing members under the EPFO have surged from 3.49 million in the 2014-2015 fiscal year to approximately 7.98 million by mid-September 2026. With nearly 768,000 contributing establishments supporting the network, the institution maintains a robust framework to deliver social security benefits to eligible workers nationwide.
