Enugu Air and Omni-Blu Aviation to Launch Lagos-London Flights in December
The partnership marks a strategic expansion for the state-owned airline to increase international connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Enugu Air, a state-owned airline based in Nigeria, has received regulatory approval to begin direct flights from Lagos to London Gatwick starting December 1, 2026. This new service will be operated in a strategic partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation Limited, marking a significant milestone in the airline's international growth strategy.
The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority issued the Foreign Aircraft Operating Permit to Omni-Blu Aviation, authorizing the carrier to operate scheduled international flights under the existing air transport agreement between the two nations. The permit, which remains effective through March 27, 2027, specifies that the service must utilize a designated aircraft, registration CS-TGD, under a wet lease agreement with EuroAtlantic Airways.
The launch of this route is expected to strengthen trade, tourism, and investment ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. According to airline officials, the move aligns with the broader aviation vision of Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who aims to establish the state as a prominent hub for regional and international connectivity within West and Central Africa.
This expansion follows the airline's maiden international flight to Douala, Cameroon, which took place on September 23, 2026. Since its inception in July 2025, Enugu Air has utilized a fleet of Embraer E170 and E190 aircraft to support its growing network, which is part of a larger government initiative to modernize the regional transport ecosystem.
The addition of this route is a notable development for Nigeria’s standing under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). Historically, Nigeria has operated at a structural deficit regarding flight frequencies to the United Kingdom compared to British carriers. With Omni-Blu Aviation launching four weekly frequencies to London Gatwick, the gap in available flight slots is narrowing, providing more options for travelers.
Prior to this authorization, Air Peace served as the only Nigerian carrier operating direct flights to London. The entry of the Enugu Air and Omni-Blu partnership brings the total number of Nigerian airlines on the route to two. Industry observers note that while this development utilizes four of the available frequencies, four additional slots remain open for other Nigerian carriers to potentially claim in the future.
Bookings for the new Lagos–London Gatwick service are currently open to the public via the airline's online portal. The airline has emphasized that this expansion is a key component of its long-term objective to enhance air connectivity and provide more competitive travel options for passengers flying between the two countries.
