A series of earthquakes rattled Mexicali and other parts of Baja California on Tuesday afternoon, prompting regional authorities to issue alerts and urge residents to remain cautious regarding potential aftershocks.

Initially, the government of Baja California warned citizens about seismic activity shortly before 1:00 p.m. local time. Governor Marina del Pilar stated via social media that an initial preliminary magnitude of 5.1 was registered with an epicenter located west-northwest of ejido Nuevo León, based on data from the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE). The center later reclasified the magnitude to 4.9.

Meanwhile, the National Seismological Service (SSN) recorded two distinct tremors in the Mexicali Valley. The first struck at 12:17 p.m. with a magnitude of 4.1, located northwest of Guadalupe Victoria. A second, stronger tremor followed shortly after at 12:27 p.m. with a magnitude of 4.6, centered northwest of Guadalupe Victoria.

Additionally, international agencies such as the United States Geological Survey (USGS) logged a magnitude 4.7 earthquake at a depth of nearly 16 kilometers, which was felt moderately by residents in the surrounding area. The PAGER impact alert issued by the USGS was green, indicating that no significant casualties or structural damage were expected.

Governor del Pilar confirmed that no injuries or damages had been reported as a result of the seismic events. "We ask you to maintain calm, take precautions against possible aftershocks, and stay attentive to the information we will be sharing through our official channels. Remember that in case of any emergency, you can call 9-1-1," she emphasized.

Local officials across the region also responded to the tremors. Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño announced that the municipal government remained on alert through the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection, advising citizens to identify safe zones and follow official updates. Social media users reported that the shaking was felt strongly in Mexicali and Tijuana, while the Ensenada municipal government building was temporarily evacuated.

Neighboring states also monitored the situation closely. The Government of Sonora published a statement on the social media platform X confirming that no damages, disruptions, or injuries were recorded within its territory following the Baja California earthquakes.
