Denver Nuggets Open 2026-27 NBA Season Against Oklahoma City Thunder

The Denver Nuggets are set to make their official 2026-27 NBA season debut on Thursday, October 22, facing the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. The game, scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET, represents a significant early-season test for both franchises as they look to establish their positions within a competitive Western Conference.

Oklahoma City enters the contest with momentum following a decisive 116-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in their season opener. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who recorded 32 points in the win, the Thunder aim to capitalize on their home-court advantage. The team's core, featuring Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, remains a focal point as they seek to build upon their recent success.

For the Denver Nuggets, the game marks the beginning of a new chapter following an offseason defined by roster adjustments. While Nikola Jokic remains the central figure of the offense, the team has integrated new talent, including DeMar DeRozan, Tyus Jones, and Marvin Bagley III, to bolster their rotation. The Nuggets face the challenge of establishing immediate chemistry against a Thunder defense that was ranked among the league's best last season.

The matchup is expected to be a tactical battle, particularly regarding the defensive assignments for Jokic. Oklahoma City has added depth to its frontcourt, including the young center Aday Mara, to provide additional size against the Nuggets' star. Conversely, Denver will need to rely on the playmaking of Jokic and the scoring versatility of Jamal Murray to overcome the Thunder's perimeter defensive pressure, which features players like Cason Wallace and Alex Caruso.

Betting markets reflect the competitive nature of the matchup, with the Thunder entering as home favorites. Analysts note that while Denver historically maintains a high offensive rating, the loss of defensive depth in the offseason has raised questions about their ability to contain high-scoring opponents. Conversely, the Thunder's depth and defensive consistency have led some observers to favor them to cover the spread in this early-season encounter.

Fans in the United States can watch the game on ESPN. Various streaming platforms, including Fubo and DIRECTV, are also offering options for viewers to access the broadcast. As both teams look to set the tone for the remainder of the season, this clash at the Paycom Center serves as a critical indicator of their respective forms and potential as contenders in the Western Conference.
