A late touchdown and a crucial goal-line stand propelled the Broncos to a comeback victory over their AFC West rivals.

The Denver Broncos secured a dramatic 28-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs after staging a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback at Empower Field. Trailing by double digits entering the final period, the Broncos relied on timely offensive execution and a staunch defensive stand at the goal line to claim sole possession of the AFC West lead with a 6-2 record.

The contest began as a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading early scores. Denver opened the scoring with a 39-yard field goal from Wil Lutz, but Kansas City quickly answered when quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Rashee Rice on an 11-yard touchdown pass. The Broncos narrowed the gap to 7-6 following a 45-yard field goal by Lutz, which was set up by a 23-yard pass from quarterback Bo Nix to wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

Kansas City extended its advantage when rookie running back Emmett Johnson broke away for a 73-yard touchdown reception off a toss from Mahomes, making it 14-6. The Broncos responded with an impressive 95-yard march led by Nix, culminating in a one-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle on fourth down.

The Chiefs managed to pad their lead before halftime after Johnson sparked another scoring sequence with a 33-yard catch-and-run, leading to a 45-yard field goal by kicker Harrison Butker that brought the halftime score to 17-13. Kansas City maintained momentum into the third quarter, capitalizing on an 11-play, 63-yard drive capped by a four-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to tight end Noah Gray to push the lead to 24-13.

While the Denver offense stalled in the third quarter with consecutive three-and-outs, Nix and the unit found their rhythm in the fourth. Nix engineered a vital response, rolling out to find tight end Nate Adkins for a two-yard touchdown after a key reception by Adam Trautman. A successful two-point conversion pass to Waddle sliced the deficit to 24-21.

Following a missed 54-yard field goal attempt by Butker, the Broncos seized the opportunity on their final possession. Nix connected with rookie running back Jonah Coleman on a 51-yard catch-and-run that pushed Denver deep into Chiefs territory. Coleman capped the drive with a five-yard rushing touchdown to put the Broncos ahead 28-24.

Mahomes attempted to mount a traditional late-game comeback for Kansas City, but the Denver defense stiffened under intense pressure. Defensive end Malcolm Roach sacked Mahomes on fourth-and-goal at the game's final hurdle, sealing the thrilling divisional win for the hosts and dropping the Chiefs to 5-2 following their second consecutive loss.

Aside from the on-field action, league whispers indicate that the Broncos have also been active in trade discussions. Reports note that Denver general manager George Paton showed interest in making a substantial move before the trade deadline, positioning the franchise among potential suitors for running back Jonathan Taylor.
