Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg left Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers with left shoulder soreness following a hard foul late in the second quarter. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year did not return for the second half of the Mavericks' 121-105 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The incident occurred when Flagg was leading a fast break and attempting a breakaway dunk. Indiana guard Aaron Nesmith pursued from behind and attempted to block the shot, resulting in a heavy collision that sent Flagg crashing awkwardly to the court. The 19-year-old immediately grabbed his left shoulder and winced in pain.

Following a video review, officials assessed Nesmith a Flagrant 1 foul. The play sparked an immediate confrontation under the basket as Mavericks forward Naji Marshall rushed to defend his teammate, drawing players from both sides into a brief on-court scuffle. Referees handed out double technical fouls to Nesmith and Marshall.

Before exiting, Flagg was putting together a stellar performance in just his second game of his sophomore professional season. In 17 minutes of action, he recorded 14 points, five rebounds, and six assists, putting him on pace for his first triple-double of the campaign. After the altercation, Flagg made one of two free throws and headed to the locker room holding his shoulder.

Dallas head coach Dusty May provided an update on his star player after the final buzzer, noting that further medical evaluations will determine the severity of the issue. “Cooper has left shoulder soreness, he'll be evaluated in the next couple of days,” May told reporters, adding that he found Flagg in good spirits inside the locker room.

The injury leaves Flagg's immediate availability in question, with May confirming that the young standout would miss the team's upcoming matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. Mavericks fans and analysts alike are awaiting the results of the upcoming medical evaluations to understand the full timeline for his return.

Despite losing their rising star, the Mavericks maintained their momentum to secure the 121-105 win, capturing their first victory under their new head coach. However, the physical nature of the contest and the subsequent altercations left the team and coaching staff focused primarily on the health of their franchise cornerstone.
