French banking giant Crédit Agricole reported higher third-quarter profit and revenue on Friday, supported by strong growth across its operations. Crédit Agricole SA, the group's listed entity, posted a net profit of €1.99 billion, or approximately $2.2 billion, up from €1.69 billion during the same period last year.
The financial institution experienced broad gains across its core metrics. Pre-tax profit rose to €3.03 billion from €2.39 billion, while gross operating income increased to €3.16 billion compared with €2.76 billion a year earlier. Total revenue climbed to €7.09 billion from €6.60 billion.
For the wider Crédit Agricole Group, which incorporates its extensive network of regional banks, net profit advanced to €2.78 billion from €2.17 billion in the third quarter of the previous year. Pre-tax profit for the wider group increased to €4.01 billion from €2.96 billion, a figure that includes a €117 million contribution from equity-accounted entities.
Furthermore, the broader group's gross operating income rose to €4.56 billion from €3.69 billion. Total revenue for the wider enterprise increased to €10.50 billion, up from €9.48 billion reported a year prior.
According to the organization, the primary driver behind the revenue increase was a substantial 41% rise in net interest income generated by its regional banks.
In addition to the gains from its regional network, financial market reports noted that the French lender also benefited from a strong operational performance in its investment banking division and its asset management unit during the quarter.
