Mexican soccer star Charlyn Corral was recognized as the best female forward in the world during the Ballon d'Or gala held on Monday at the London Palladium. The 35-year-old Pachuca Femenil player shared the spotlight with English forward Harry Kane, who received the equivalent award in the men's category.

During her acceptance speech, Corral reflected on her lengthy career and expressed immense pride in representing Mexican women's soccer on the global stage. "I am very happy to be here, to be the first Mexican woman to receive this recognition. It fills me with pride because I know that in my country they are doing things very well in women's soccer," she stated.

The forward also took a moment to acknowledge her compatriot Scarlett Camberos, who finished among the top 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or, and asked the audience to give her a round of applause. Corral expressed gratitude toward her club, teammates, coaches, and family, emphasizing that her two decades of hard work, discipline, and perseverance had ultimately paid off.

Corral secured the honor following a prolific scoring period. Depending on the statistical tracking cited across reports, her totals included impressive figures: one source noted 49 goals in 49 games for Pachuca, another highlighted 42 club goals alongside 11 with the national team, and general seasonal tallies placed her among the top global scorers.

The accomplishment marks a historic milestone for Mexican soccer, coming alongside other notable achievements in the international rankings. Alongside Corral's historic win, compatriot Scarlett Camberos placed 21st in the voting, while Julián Quiñones finished 28th in the men's category following a strong season.

Corral's path to international stardom has been shaped by deep resilience. Born in Ecatepec, Mexico, she overcame severe childhood health complications, including a near-fatal pulmonary issue at three months old, as well as physical scrutiny and social barriers early in her athletic journey. After early stints in Finland, Spain, and the United States, she returned to Mexico to star for Pachuca, cementing her legacy as one of the game's elite goalscorers.
