Casper Ruud secured a decisive victory over Rafael Jódar at the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, winning 6-3, 6-4. The match, held at the Plenitude Arena, saw the Norwegian maintain consistent focus and superior positional play, effectively neutralizing the aggressive returns from the young Spanish player. Despite Jódar's attempts to shift momentum in the second set, Ruud remained composed, ultimately closing out the match with a powerful serve that reached speeds over 200 km/h.

The defeat represents a significant setback for Jódar, who recently entered the world's top 10 rankings. Following his exit from the Paris event, the Spaniard's qualification for the ATP Finals in Turin, scheduled for November 15 to 22, remains uncertain. His participation now depends on the performance of other contenders, as he can no longer accumulate additional points this season.

The race for the final spots in the ATP Finals has been further complicated by other results in Paris. Alex de Miñaur, a primary competitor for a qualifying position, was eliminated after a loss to Argentina's Tomás Martín Etcheverry. Etcheverry’s victory, his first against a top-10 opponent, ended 7-6(2), 6-3, and effectively removed the Australian from contention for the season-ending tournament.

Novak Djokovic also saw his hopes of reaching the ATP Finals extinguished in Paris. The seven-time tournament champion was defeated by Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata in a three-set match, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Djokovic, who required a semifinal appearance to qualify for Turin, was unable to overcome the world number 83.

With De Miñaur and Djokovic out of the running, the competition for the remaining spots in Turin has narrowed to a few key players. Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul remain the primary threats to Jódar’s position. Fritz needs to reach the semifinals in Paris to surpass Jódar’s 3,234 points, while Paul must advance to the final to exceed the Spaniard's total. The outcome of the Paris Masters will ultimately determine the final lineup for the elite eight-player field.

Looking ahead to the 2027 season, Casper Ruud has already confirmed his participation in the Rio Open. The tournament, which is set to take place from February 13 to 21 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, will feature a significantly expanded venue. Organizers have announced that the complex will grow from 40,000 to 67,000 square meters, allowing for a 50% increase in spectator capacity. Ruud will join a field that includes Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, and Brazilian standout João Fonseca.
