Arsenal earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena on Wednesday, moving the London club to third place in the Champions League league phase table. The match highlighted a game of two distinct halves, with Arsenal dominating the early proceedings before surviving significant pressure from the Czech side in the final period.

The visitors established control early, with Noni Madueke scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute after receiving a precise pass from Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres later doubled the lead in the 38th minute with a curling strike following a combination play with Mikel Merino. By halftime, Arsenal appeared to be in complete command, having created multiple opportunities to extend their advantage further.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically after the interval. Slavia Prague adjusted their formation to a back three, allowing them to commit more players forward and disrupt Arsenal's rhythm. The hosts recorded 17 shots in the second half, eventually finding the back of the net in the 90th minute when Wiktor Nowak tapped in from close range. Despite a nervous finish, the Gunners held on to secure the three points.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the difficulty of the match, noting that the team failed to maintain its standards after the break. "We were on the back foot, very sloppy, we gave so many balls away, so many bad clearances," Arteta said. "We didn't keep the ball in our structure at all. And then you have to suffer because teams in the Champions League are really good."

Goalkeeper David Raya played a crucial role in preserving the win, making several key saves, including an acrobatic effort that pushed an Oskar Kubiak header against the post. Additionally, defender Gabriel Magalhaes contributed a vital goal-line clearance during the late stages of the game to prevent an equalizer. Arteta took full responsibility for the team's second-half performance, emphasizing that the squad must learn from the experience.

For Viktor Gyokeres, the performance marked a positive development in his season. After a slow start, the Swedish striker has now scored two goals in his last three appearances. Beyond his goal and assist, his ability to link play and connect with his teammates provided a significant boost to Arsenal's attacking efforts. Arteta praised his contribution, noting that the player was well-connected to the team's tactical requirements.

The victory brings Arsenal to 13 wins across all competitions this season, tying them with Barcelona and Real Madrid for the most wins among Europe's top five leagues. As the Champions League campaign progresses, the Gunners look to build on this result while addressing the defensive lapses that allowed Slavia Prague to mount a late challenge.
