The Minnesota Timberwolves opened their season with a commanding 131-106 victory over the Miami Heat at the Kaseya Center, powered by a stellar performance from star shooting guard Anthony Edwards. Edwards dominated both ends of the floor, finishing with 45 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in just over 33 minutes of play.

Edwards shot 55.2% from the field and connected on 9 of 17 attempts from three-point range, single-handedly outscoring the entire Miami team from beyond the arc as the Heat went 8 of 33 on three-pointers. Despite head coach Erik Spoelstra deploying eight different primary defenders and various defensive schemes, Edwards successfully scored against every player assigned to guard him.

By recording at least 45 points and 10 rebounds in a season opener, Edwards joined an elite group consisting of Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and Anthony Davis. Furthermore, Edwards joined Jordan and Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to achieve the feat twice in a season opener.

Reflecting on the team's physical readiness after the game, Edwards credited the intense practices leading up to the season. "If you see how we've been playing against each other for the past two months, then you'll know we're ready for physical teams. We've been going at each other for the last two months. It felt good to put it on somebody else," Edwards stated.

The matchup also marked the official debuts of several notable players. Giannis Antetokounmpo made his first appearance for Miami, scoring 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting before eventually fouling out. Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball made his regular-season debut for Minnesota following his offseason acquisition, contributing 21 points, six assists, and two steals while shooting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Despite Ball's productive statistical night, his performance drew widespread attention for an uncalled travelling violation during the second quarter. The point guard executed a perimeter jump shot after taking multiple shuffling steps backward without dribbling, a sequence that went viral online and sparked discussions regarding officiating standards compared to international FIBA rules.

Ball also faced postgame scrutiny regarding his comments on the team's championship aspirations for the season. When asked about expectations by broadcasters, Ball remarked that he does not place specific expectations on the team, prompting criticism from analysts on the broadcast panel who argued that a roster featuring top-tier talent should explicitly aim for a title.

The Timberwolves will look to continue their winning momentum when they travel to face the Orlando Magic. Meanwhile, the Miami squad will aim to regroup following a difficult home-opener defeat.
